The paper talk has started in earnest, well it started in October, but you get my drift.
Today we are linked with Spurs striker Jermain Defoe AGAIN. This time the People (ahem) say a £12million bid will be made in January. Strange because Spurs clearly stated last week that there was no price on the England strikers head because he is not for sale. We’ll just have to see I guess!
In the News of the World we are linked to Charlton striker Darren Bent. YES, YES, and YES. He would be a fantastic signing, it would push his England chances and he’d fit exactly into our set up!
Also in the News of the World is a link to West Bromwich Albion winger Zoltan Gera who before injuries last season was a major hit at the Baggies, especially in the 2004/5 Premiership season. He is a nifty winger/attacking midfielder who also plays as a second striker, he has an excellent crossing ability and was linked to several big moves last year, he is also captain of the Hungarian national team. This season he has 3 goals in 16 appearances.
Not bad links those, Defoe and Bent would be nice, but as said, I can’t see Spurs going back on their word and selling their striker. Funny we’ve not had a Robbie Keane link for at least a week, the papers really are getting slow.
Rumours around Villa Park yesterday were saying we were going to get David Nugent from Preston North End. Not so sure of this one, he has just 6 goals in 22 games for PNE, not exactly prolific, although I believe last season he was, but 6 in 22 and then to make the jump up to the Premiership? Hmmm.
