Lets see if we can put an end to the rumours that Spurs striker Jermain Defoe is coming to Villa.

The England striker said in the Daily Mirror today:

‘At the end of the day, if I was going to leave I would have gone by now. The fans know I love the club, all my friends are here so I am just looking forward to putting on a Spurs shirt and scoring many goals. There has been competition for places for the past few years now. There’s so much quality in the dressing room that it keeps you on your toes so you’ve got to play well and that is only good for the club.’

Right, Defoe isn’t coming, end of.

Meanwhile the Express and Star say that Liam Ridgewell’s move to Birmingham City is in doubt because Villa won’t drop their £2.5million asking price. Wolves are also apparently interested.

I don’t think we should be selling him full stop, thought we were building a squad? However, good to see if he is sold, with two years left on his contract, he won’t be given away.

  • I am sure it will not take long for him to become disillusioned at being 4th choice striker at Spurs…. didn’t get on at all against Kaiser Chiefs today…… and as pointed out above has he said no…. has even been asked!!!

  • Expect to see Defoe sign this week after that comment…….
Can’t believe Catweasle wants to go to the dildo salesmen though, he is surely good enough for bottom half of the prem but can’t we loan him out to try to get some form playing week in week out?

  • He’s showing a professional attitude of a person employed for a huge sum of money… i think JD is a credit to football and his club.

  • I agree with Villain444 – send him out on loan for a season if we think he’s surplus to requirements. That way if we get an injury crisis we can at least call him back in. Plus if he has a good season on loan he gives MON an interesting option – maybe save him a few quid signing another CB next season….or at least raise his transfer value if he is still going to be given the boot…..

  • Also like Defoe’s attitude – he obviously backs himself, and wants to prove he is worthy of a starting spot….although will be interesting to see what that decision does for his International aspirations…..he might prove to regret it. Kind of put’s our own boy Davis’s decision into perspective as well doesn’t it.

  • I am not too dissapointed regards Defoe not coming as I think/hope Luke Moore might now get the chance he deserves! I hope MON gives him a run next season as I believe he will flourish playing off Carew. As regards Ridgewell, I think it would be a smart move to either loan him to WBA or sell him in part ex for Curtis Davis.

  • Wouldn’t that Ridgewell chap be better off at Everton, or tranmere or Liverpool. With that ridiculous moustache he would suit the scouse look and fit in very well methinks

  • Dont want of rate defoe, earning money and getting attention are his main objectives. Id prefer MON to spend the 10m on a centre back or right winger.

  • Shame in many ways about Defoe, but hopefully we’ll soon forget about any interest we may have had in signing him, when Luke starts rattling in the goals. Important season ahead for Luke. It looks like he may well have every opportunity to prove that the potential we all talk about him having in abundance, can develop into reality, and whose to say that given a decent run of games, the younger Moore brother wont outscore Defoe in the premiership scoring charts? Go to it Luke.

  • Loan out Ridge if he needs games, Berger benefited from going to Stoke so why not.The lad has done well but a little mistake prone. He’s still young, and has played LB for England u-21 so can cover there too. No need to sell him unless Haagelund is coming for sure. Forget Defoe, Luke can do the same job. UTV.
