David O’Leary has confirmed that Aston Villa will take up the one-year option on Mark Delaney’s contract.
The 29-year-old Welsh wizard (!) has formed a decent partnership with Olof Mellberg in recent weeks in the centre of defence having impressed enough to keep Liam Ridgewell out of the team. He has managed a 13 game run before picking up another unfortunate injury – this time his knee – which will keep him out for up to three weeks.
Luckily the latest injury set back hasn’t stopped the club following the managers wishes of offering the player a contract.
O’Leary told the official site: ‘We are going to take up the option. That’s been given to Mark this morning an it’s absolutely great news. It’s good news for everyone all round.’
