Delight At Coming From Behind

Martin O’Neill was beaming with delight after seeing us come from a goal behind today to secure all three points against Chelsea.

I think most of us would’ve more than taken a point before the match started and after the first 20 minutes it was beginning to look like even a point would be beyond us.

Two set pieces later, two headers from commanding, and ever growing in stature centre halves reversed all that though.

Speaking on the official site after the match, Monny said:

‘I am absolutely delighted. I thought we played brilliantly in the first half and obviously had to defend strongly in the second half.

‘Chelsea came at us after the break but we saw it through in the end. They had a 15 minute period – it was tough for us. But my overall view is that we were splendid.’

s for praising the players, when you pull a result like this out of the hat it’s hard to single out individuals, but of course Collins and Dunne need special mentions, and Monny was also delighted with the reaction of Friedel after his early mistake.

‘Our defenders are terrific players. Collins is very, very underrated. Dunne has been a really good player for a long, long time in this Premier League. But Collins is underrated. His performances for us have been fantastic.’

Adding:

‘Brad came back brilliantly after his error. He didn’t dwell on it. He didn’t get an opportunity within two or three minutes to rectify it either so that would have been playing on his mind.’

You know folks, we might not be there yet, but maybe, just maybe we are beginning to click?
