Fabian Delph has said he was honoured to lead the boys out against Chicago Fire, and it made the victory all the more sweet.
Speaking to the Official Site Delph started by talking about the atmosphere in the team at the moment:
‘It’s a great atmosphere, everyone is so positive, raring to go every day. The training sessions are 100%. Everyone is working hard and the tempo is spot on, it’s a dream to be part of, to be honest.’
The biggest moment for Delph of course was being handed the captain’s armband by Paul Lambert:
‘I was honoured to be given the captaincy against Fire. I am only young so obviously it was a big deal for me, I was really delighted. It’s a massive boost for me, it’s been a frustrating three years, but I feel good now and I’m really looking forward to the season.’
Would certainly have come as a boost for him, and fingers crossed that extra lift will be the luck he needs to get a real good run in the team and stay injury free, so he can have the chance to show us whether he can reach the potential many believed he had all those years ago when we signed him.
His performances of late have been good, and his determination will be a big plus for us if he can keep off the Doc’s table and keep his form up.
