In the recent poll we sought the thoughts of the fine Vital Villa community on who should be our Player of the Year.
Is there anyone out there surprised with Fabian Delph massively leading the vote with 66%?
Christian Benteke came in second with 15%, and Carles Gil third with 10%.
Delph was of course crowned the Terrace Trophy winner this season as well.
So there we have it folks.
But I must add a quick mention for the seriously improved Ciaran Clark this term who really stepped up his own performance levels to a standard many of us hoped he was capable of.
As folks know, I didn’t lead with the Player of the Month winners we’ve had this season, as the list was restrictive and didn’t curiously feature Delph.
Clark picked up the Monthly vote for February and March and was the only player to win the Monthly vote twice, with Alan Hutton, Nathan Baker, Carlos Sanchez and Christian Benteke winning once – with a couple of months skipped as not even Doris would’ve polled high enough.
Unfortunately in the Man of the Match polls Clarkie only won once, and we make the cut at two match wins or above to try and reflect a more consistent performer and this is the first year that I remember where Match and Monthly winners didn’t tally so a fudge might need to be made next season where hopefully competition can be a bit fiercer with improvement in all areas on the pitch.
As for match vote – Delph won four, as did Gil with his impressive start after joining us.
So Clark gets my MF Player of the Year award (with the prize being permission to grow a beard) as he would’ve taken my vote.
