Villa secured both the local bragging rights again and European competition for the 3rd season running with our hard fought 1-0 victory over the Blues today.
O’Neill in his after match verdict Click Here reserved special praise for Brad Friedel, describing his performance today as ‘sensational’.
‘All his ability and all his experience came to the fore, in the second half particularly.’
O’Neill described the win itself as ‘major’ and for more than one reason. We all like the bragging rights that come with these games but for Villa the 3 points are far more important, it keeps us in the mix for a shot at Top 4, but it also secured European football for next season again.
‘We kept going brilliantly, I am delighted for the team. We have qualified for Europe as a result of winning, we can’t finish any worse than seventh.’
So it’s all to play for again really, we may not be able to finish any worse than 7th, but with two games to go that 4th place is still possible, even if we need others to do us a favour.
Even if that’s not possible if we go out with a bang and on a high I’m pretty sure everyone will be happy.
