The summer transfer window rumour mill is a weird and wonderful thing on occasions and I must admit the name Alfonso Pedraza is a completely new one for me, but apparently we were in for the left sided midfielder this summer – however, he rejected our advances.

The 23-year-old has come through Villarreal’s youth system and although he has over 100 appearances to his name, the bulk of those games have come from loans spells away from the Spanish side. Outlet Estadio Deportivo recently covered his loan switch from Villarreal to Real Betis but they did claim that he had rejected offers from both Aston Villa and Eintracht Frankfurt I presume.

Given that the deals we are completing this season are largely unknown, it does make you wonder if this claim could’ve been accurate – especially as he’s capable of playing at left back.

If he turned us down though it’s his loss, and maybe I’m in one of those moods but given one of his loan spells was out with Leeds United back in the second half of the 2016/17 campaign, I’m wondering if we should forgive him because maybe the experience scarred him?

From what I can tell, we’ve got the better player in Matt Targett in any event.
