Don’t Panic – Silly Season Reaches Peak Nonsense Moment With £50m Villa Claim

|

Aston Villa fans were in for a treat on Sunday morning as the uniquely reliable ‘The Sun’ exclusively claimed that Manchester United were preparing a ‘shock’ £50million offer for star midfielder John McGinn.

Now don’t get me wrong, given what we saw from the 24-year-old last season, he was naturally an incredibly worthy winner of both our Players Player Of The Year and Supporters Player of the Year gongs given his efforts following his arrival from Hibernian, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves here.

It was only just over a week ago that it was being claimed that Villa were looking to tie him down to a new contract and whilst I have no doubts that he could make that kind of step up, whilst Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might be going ‘young and hungry’ with the signing of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and taking a closer look at Axel Tuanzebe, there’s not a cat in hell’s chance they would cough that amount up just yet with him not even having Premier League experience.

Quite why so many seemed to take it as fact and panic is a little beyond me, I thought we were used to utter invention at this time of year?
