Doug Ellis has finally admitted what most fans have been waiting to hear. He WILL listen to offers IF they are beneficial to the club.

Villa are currently the subject of a possible takeover bid by Comer Homes. Solihull born, life long Villa fan Michael Neville, who is employed by the Comer brothers, is said to be heading the rumoured £64m takeover. It is unclear whether there are any other offers on the table although there have been widespread talk of a Russian consortium being interested as well. That said, we have been linked to just about every nation in the last year or so. As usual, only time will tell. It seems obvious that no matter what offer is put forward, any successful group will have to offer Doug some sort of role at Villa Park, even if it is just honouree.

Ellis said: ‘I have to face the fact that I am 82 in January. And, as long as I can find the right people to take the club forward, I would be prepared to sell.’ But he warns, quite rightly, ‘it isn’t just about money. It’s about the club and what happens to it afterwards. I don’t want a situation where if someone takes over, they will asset-strip, for example. I want to be confident they are the right people.’

Lets hope he listens and takes good advice from the board. I’m not sure he is impartial enough to judge who might do what bearing in mind he is the majority shareholder who stands to make a small fortune when he does sell! Still, positive news and the sort that should bring more interested parties forward.
