Despite the protestations that there is no money to spend in the summer, Villa are still being linked to players! The latest is Steve Sidwell from Reading. O’Leary is said to be an admirer of the midfielder but Royals boss Steve Coppell has made it clear he won’t be selling his best players.
Coppell, who took Reading to an amazing 106 points tally to win the Championship – 16 points clear of second placed Sheffield United, said:

‘I’m under no pressure to sell so I don’t expect to lose anyone and I don’t expect anyone to want to leave,’ Coppell revealed. ‘We have a relatively small but close-knit squad and it’s very rare that a promoted team loses players.’

With a reported price tag of £5million he would be out of our budget anyway unless we get some major sales in the summer. BUT you have to ask yourself, what is the point of trying to build a squad when you have to sell your prized assets to fund it? That is Dougeconomics at its worst.
