Richard Dunne is being exported to Cleveland to he recovers from his broken collarbone so he can take advantage of our links with their medical department.
With more upper body injuries occuring in the NFL, the Browns staff are well placed to deal with his shoulder injury and should be able to add that touch of expertise to his recovery.
Speaking to the Official Site after the trip had been agreed and arranged, Dunne said:
‘I’ll be going to Cleveland to see the Browns staff there. They haven’t said exactly what they’ll be doing over there. The manager, the doctor and the fitness coach went over a few weeks ago and the connection is strong between the two teams because of the chairman, I think he’s fostered that relationship.’
Whilst Dunney might not know what he’s in for, he knows he should benefit from it:
‘Because of the nature of American football, the Browns have a lot of experience in dealing with the kind of injury I suffered, so any help that I can get will be much appreciated. It will be a great experience and also a change of scenery for a week or so, which is important. I’m looking forward to it, I think it will be a good week.’
I know plenty don’t see the point in the medical and scientific knowledge swops the Villa and the Browns have undertaken since Randy took over, but I think this puts it into a very clear perspective.
Most football injuries are lower body, most NFL injuries are upper body. Whatever you deal in more often you’ll have a greater knowledge of, and be more comfortable with. If the Browns can get a player back a week earlier than expected because of techniques they have learnt from us, and if we can get a player back a week earlier than expected because of techniques we’ve learnt from them or even by sending them there – doesn’t that make every sense in the world?
It does to me.
