A 1-0 nil victory over Leeds United at Villa Park on Friday evening saw Aston Villa confirm their Play-Off spot for the season of 2017/18.

Lewis Grabban’s goal just shy of the half-hour mark was enough to secure all three points as the latest round of fixtures played out, although automatic promotion hopes remain alive, our season extension via the Play-Offs is now confirmed.

Whilst the game itself was hardly a classic, and few could argue with that sentiment, fans were content enough with the three points and confirmation of the Play-Off spot.

Ipswich Town, Derby County and then Millwall to complete the season now. The expectation is we’ll get home advantage for the second leg of the Semi-Finals stage but it’s still all to play for and again, form is always key when it comes to the Play-Offs and Villa can certainly improve on that front as we all know where we sit in terms of our performances lately.

STATS: ASTON VILLA V LEEDS

As these next few games tick by the makeup of the Play-Off spots will be clearer as it’s still wide open really from 5th place down to Bristol City in 11th spot so I wouldn’t be placing bets on who we will face just yet.

Nobody wanted the Play-Offs to come down to Millwall on the final day and we’ve avoided that scenario, but we can still have a big say on who makes 5th and 6th place so Derby and Millwall cannot be underestimated.

Villa can’t start thinking ahead just yet and get sidetracked and I’m sure Steve Bruce will be trying to drum that into the players.
