The move for new manager is moving at a fair old pace and not surprisingly, my name is in the hat after I applied for the job myself.

Following that, Vital Gretna’s roving reporter, Neil Baker decided to check out my odds with William Hills and got the following reply! (Genuine communication)

Hi Neil,

Thank you for your e-mail.

We have forwarded your request to the relevant Trading department who have quoted odds of 50/1 for Jonathan Fear to become the next permanent Aston Villa manager.

As this is not available online, should you wish to place the bet using the funds in your Online account please contact our Telebetting centre on freephone 0800 444 040 with your account number and your intended stake and we will place the wager for you.

Alternatively, you can place the bet in one of our Betting Offices. Please note that all odds are subject to change, and the prices in this e-mail do not constitute an offer of a bet at those prices.

With regards,

Chris

Neil said to me: ‘WOW. You said we live in an alternative reality – yes, perhaps we do – but does that reality allow one of the biggest, if not the biggest, bookmakers in the country to offer the same odds for Mr Fear as Mr Gregory?’

So there you have it, I might be an outsider for the job, but only as much as John Gregory.

Come on Doug, give me a call, you know it makes sense, especially following all my hero worshipping of you over the years. I’m free Monday afternoon for an interview but you’ll have to give me notice so I can have my hair done.

(Note to self, dig out your old boots from the loft, dodgy legs or not, you may be able to push and become player manager).

  • Good luck! If your looking for an assistant, despite being a pompey fan, my love for the game and world renouned knowledge could help!!!! Plus, as I’ve threatened on the Pompey site I’m contemplating coming out of retirement to offer my defensive qualit

  • However Paddy power are quoting Mr. The Fear at 1000/1, a slight difference of odds there.

  • what are the odds of the coffin dodger appointing himself as manager, with Doris as assistant?

  • Ellis in a repeat of the Ron Noades situation at Brentford a few years back, that’s a frightening thought for you guys…

  • What this shows is that this race is wide open. And I can’t wait for this to be all over the press – JP Fear, from Fans Chef to Gaffer.

  • Its still George Graham thats the name in there that worries me. I can honestly say I’d start the protests, banner wavings, egg throwings etc, in an almighty attempt to get JF appointed ahead of Graham, or Hoddle, or Megson, or Souness, or etc. etc. Yes,
