It was being reported late yesterday evening that Jordan Veretout had missed his medical with Ligue 1 side St Etienne owing to interest from Italian side Fiorentina.

Veretout’s return to France to join up with the club he spent last season on loan with has been rumbling on for the last few weeks and on Tuesday evening there were claims that a deal had now been done between both sides and that a medical was penned in for yesterday.

French outlet L’Equipe reported that Fiorentina came in with a late offer that scuppered plans for the medical, and from our point of view that they could be prepared to pay £7million upfront for the player which of course is a better return for us on the speculation £4odd million St Etienne were prepared to pay given our initial outlay.

They say Veretout remains in England at least for this moment in time as talks between the new side begin.

Betis’ interest as covered before seems to have stalled.
