Footballers who try their hand at poker

Football players tend to thrive in intense, competitive environments as they are at their best when on the field. In light of this, it follows that many of these players also like to be involved in other games that test their skills in different ways. One such game that has proven quite popular among many footballers is poker. It appeals to their love of adrenaline and allows them to exercise their minds. Here are some examples of poker playing footballers, who have made their name both on the field and around the table.

One player who has swapped the field for the felt is Tomas Brolin, from Sweden. Brolin had a successful career as a professional football player, especially when he was with the team A.C. Parma. He also played on the Swedish national team, helping them get to third place in the 1994 World Cup. However, once the player retired from the sport, he needed something else to keep him busy. In 2006 he joined the Poker World Series and in the same year he competed in PartyPoker‘s Football & Poker Legends Cup. He has had some success already and has competed in many other poker competitions.

Another football player who chose to head to the poker world after he retired from the ball-game is Teddy Sheringham. He had been involved in poker before leaving football, however once he retired he decided to devote his time to becoming a professional poker player. A year after getting into the famous card game, he surprised everyone with his success at the 2009 World Series of Poker Europe. He made it to the final two tables and came away with some money from his efforts.

Other footballers who turned poker professionals include Tony Cascarino, and Jan Vang Sorensen, both of whom have had success in both games.
