Aston Villa striker Keinan Davis has long been a conundrum within the fanbase. The 24-year-old was a late joiner to our Academy, but he made his first team debut for us back in January 2017 against Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup and since then he’s gone on to make 28 starting appearances, with a further 59 appearances from the substitutes bench.

Davis’ strengths were clear to everyone when it came to leading the line when he was at his best, unfortunately, his weaknesses were also obvious to see as he only scored six goals across all that game time. Sadly for him, injuries also seriously hampered his progress at the club and many fans would argue that there were times when it looked like his confidence was growing and it was about to click for him, only for him to then fall foul of another knock.

His spell with Nottingham Forest in the second half of the 2021/22 campaign unfortunately followed the same pattern, but his game time was good with 18 starts and four substitute showings, but importantly he returned five goals. The standout performance I remember was when they put Leicester City to the sword in the FA Cup with a 4-1 victory, but his performances certainly helped them into the Play Offs and he more than helped play his part in their return to the Premier League.

On Saturday afternoon, whilst most eyes were focussed on our clash with Everton, the club confirmed that he had now made another loan switch out and he’s headed to Vicarage Road and Watford for the remainder of the year.

Hopefully, it’ll turn into another good spell for him where he can really kick on in his career and put those injuries and niggles behind him, and although it hasn’t been confirmed officially by either club, Davis’s goodbye message strongly indicates a potential buy clause on the loan – possibly obligated come the end of the season – as his contract does run until the summer of 2024.

Good luck Keinan, go become the player that some of us think is in there!
