Former West Bromwich Albion head coach Darren Moore was inextricably sacked earlier this season despite taking the Baggies comfortably into the top four places in the division with some entertaining attacking displays, but some defensive showings that left an awful lot to be desired.

West Brom’s form has largely stayed the same despite the change in manager’s and with both sides now preparing for the Play-Off semi-final doubleheader, Moore was asked for his thoughts on both sides ahead of the tie.

Speaking to the E&S this week with far more than just bragging rights up for grabs in these two games, Moore said exactly what you’d expect him to about West Brom, calling them a ‘great group of players’ and stating his belief that they would be ‘quietly confident’ going into the tie, but his choice of words about Villa seemed to be far more glowing and no doubt it’ll rub some of our near rivals up the wrong way.

“Villa will feel they’ve got real momentum going into this game and they’ll want to continue doing what they’re doing. They’ve got wonderful flair and balance, they’re scoring goals and keeping it tight at the back. It’s a local derby so both clubs know each other very well, both have exceptional players. I envisage both games will be tightly fought contests decided by a moment of brilliance.”
