Four Festive Scenarios

stennyvilla says:

We have four tough games over the Xmas period, starting with
Sheffield United, followed by Brentford and Middlesbrough away, finishing with high flying Bristol City.

Rather than just the results, what do fellow fans feel is the most likely outcome after these games, in terms of the mood, confidence, and momentum we will take into the New Year?

1) An uplift in performances produces a decent points haul over the four games, and with Terry, Green, and others returning from injury, we go into 2018 with our tails up, and high hopes that recent blips are behind us, and we can go on a run to challenge for second place to Wolves.

2) A misfiring, disjointed Villa stumbles into the New Year on the back of a disappointing return of a handful of points, with a play-off place beginning to look more and more like the best we can hope for. Hopes again depend on returning players from injury, and maybe a couple of astute January loan deals.

3) A near blank Festive points haul, outplayed by all four teams. Pressure is on Bruce to go, as mid-table beckons. Confidence of any useful additions is reduced. With poor results, and with last year’s January purchases all having under-performed to some degree, trust is back to a low point, and the good Doctor has a decision to make.

4) None of the above, a hit and miss period of bits and pieces, that leaves us unclear what the New Year holds.

Clearly I, and everyone must hope it will be option 1, but I think the most likely is option 4. Some fans may find it hard to choose between options 2 and 3 in terms of what is best for Villa’s long term future.
