Fresh Start For Jean Makoun II

So, as we mentioned earlier (Villa Squad To Be Shaken Up – Players To Leave), according to the John Wragg report in www.express.co.uk exiled (well, he was loaned anyway) Jean Makoun II could well be given a second chance. He has returned from his loan at Olympiakos where he apparently did well.

He appeared for them 19 times and scored twice.

It was almost impossible for us to judge him following the turbulent half season under Gerrard Houllier and obviously Alex McLeish shipped him out pretty much straight away.

McLeish said before he exited, “Has he got a future with us? It depends. The reason for letting Jean out was I looking for a different type of midfielder. I`m not saying he`s not got a future – it would be stupid to say that – but certainly I was looking at our midfield without Jean.”

Bit strange as he then moaned we didn`t have enough players or depth?

The 28-year-old is still contracted to Villa and although Olympiakos apparently signalled they would be interested in making his loan signing permanently, I can`t see why Lambert won`t want to try to use the asset. We bought the 28-year-old midfielder from Lyon for around £5-7m depending on which report you read. No need to take yet another massive hit on a player without giving him a second chance is there?

Makoun seemed excited when he first joined Villa saying “The players here are very, very good. I have watched the team a few times and I have been following the progress of the side for quite a while. I want to help a lot, I want to contribute, I am hoping things will really start to pick up now and we start moving up the table.’

He has two years left on his contract which runs out 30.06.2014
