Bit of a quiet day on the Villa transfer gossip front today, only real link is outwards! :o( Oh hang on, I tell a lie!

Villa have made a signing, we’ve grabbed 16-year old Courtney Cameron from Northampton Town. Northampton’s boss of the youth set up told the Cobblers site: ‘He is an attacking player, very athletic and has an excellent attitude. He has worked hard, listened well and he, just like Mark and Anton before him, is proof that local players are in good hands here at Northampton Town.’

An the rest?

The Daily Mail claim that Barcelona might come in for Ashley Young if they get priced out of a move for Munich’s Franck Ribery. The report also repeats that Spurs are keen on the Villa and England winger. According to the Mail Real Madrid were also sniffing around Young in December but obviously they’ve now spent obscene money on Kaka and goofy so will no longer be needing to trouble us!

Meanwhile Janine Self of The Sunsays that Young is in no rush to leave Villa BUT will be looking at the transfer activity in the next few weeks to make sure Villa’s ambitions match his, if not…?

By the way, the simple fact is, no matter what the press report, Ashley Young is not for sale!

Also in the Daily Mail is a snippet saying Fulham will sign Wigan defender Paul Scharner for £6m. Why does that interest us? Well, they also claim in the report that Scharner turned down Villa because Martin O’Neill wanted him to play in defence rather than in his preferred midfield role.

The Manchester Evening News say that Villa and Everton are after Paul Scharner Apparently Sunderland were also interested but he doesn’t want to team back up with his ex Wigan boss Mr Potato Head, sorry, Steve Bruce.

Blimey, the Daily Mail are doing well today! They claim Villa have told Wolves that Zat Knight is not available after Wolverhampton Wanderer’s boss Mick McCarthy enquired about the defenders availability. Blues have also been linked.

Oh good grief, Villa are being linked with 34-year-old Portsmouth (and former Arsenal/Spurs) defender Sol Campbell according to the Daily Express. NOoooooo. Too late… much much too late! Sol

Manchester City are being linked to Villa’s third choice and former Arsenal keeper Stuart Taylor who would offer back up to No1 Shay Given. Apparently City and England U21 keeper Joe Hart will be loaned out (Blues linked) to get more first team experience.
