Brad Friedel has admitted the growth of Brad Jnr is spurring him on to some top quality performances this season.

Speaking to SSN after a sterling performance against Spurs – well let’s face it, if Brad Snr had had an off day we’d have been royally done up the Arsenal – the 38 year old has admitted that the growing confidence of Mini Me means he’s not taking his place for granted anymore.

Brad Snr admits that he’s always been self motivated, and cites the time he spent at Blackburn when they had very little depth of cover for the No 1 shirt, but now it’s a little different because Brad Jnr is pushing him all the way.

‘Brad Guzan has an incredible work ethic and I now he is very, very good. In the back of my mind that keeps me going.’

It’s likely Guzan will be back between the sticks for Tuesday’s quarter final against Pompey and will no doubt take the opportunity to remind Martin that (well in his mind) it wouldn’t be a bad idea to rest the old man once in a while.

The ironic thing is given last seasons form, Guzan on this seasons form could well have got a chance, but I can’t see him replacing Big Brad just yet – not with the form he’s showing.
