Brad Friedel has said that all the talk of the possible departure of James Milner will not hamper the club’s pre season build up.

Speaking to press at today’s kit launch the elder statesman of the Villa squad admitted it would be disappointing to see Milly go, but that simply in football players move and replacements have to be of the same quality or better, it’s just the nature of the game and it’s not something that team mates get wrapped up in.

‘If someone does go, and someone does come in, you can count on the fact that a good player will have left and a good player will have come in.’

Adding that as a member of the playing staff it is not their job as a whole or individually, and nor would they want to, attempt to dictate transfers either in or out.

‘I don’t pay much attention at all to speculation. As a player I turn up, I do my work, I go home and then I switch my phone off. What happens in the transfer market has nothing to do with us as players.’

You do wonder really what prompts these sorts of questions, every year, at every club, ‘a’ player says effectively what G Friddy said above, I think last year it might have been Petrov on the Barry saga, there’s only so many ways you can say the same thing surely which is basically:

Transfers aren’t our jobs

e have no say who comes in or goes

‘m focusing on my own preparation for the new season and not speculation

It’ll probably be Richard Dunne next year as next summer will be the turn of Ash Young again won’t it.
