Earlier this afternoon Aston Villa made the short trip to the Pirelli Stadium to face off against Burton Albion in the Bass Vase.

Yes, this was a bit more than a friendly as it had silverware riding on it and the game could not possibly end in a draw, with penalties the outcome at full time if nothing could separate the sides.

Another strong starting line-up was selected by manager Steve Bruce for the game, but we did have a somewhat more youthful feel to the substitutes bench and travelling Villa fans (and those watching the stream) were in for a treat as it was a good game and we found the back of the net four times.

Jonathan Kodjia opened the scoring in the game to make it three goals from three games as he continues building his fitness and form following last seasons injuries and we went into the break with a 1-0 advantage. Bruce opted against changes at halftime and Albert Adomah quickly made it 2-0. Having grabbed himself an assist, Ritchie de Laet continues to impress this pre-season as he hit our third and then we made a number of changes and fans would’ve been delighted to see the likes of Jake Doyle-Hayes, Corey Blackett-Taylor and Mitch Clark all get an opportunity on the pitch.

Gary Gardner completed the scoring to make it 4-0.

Decent performance, some lovely goals – on we plod.
