Gabby Agbonlahor has heaped praise on new arrival Chris Sutton after they forged a decent partnership against Liverpool in the second half of the weekends 3-1 loss.

Gabby, now on four goals so far this season, told the official site:

‘We weren’t up to scratch in the first-half. But in the second-half there was more effort, we scored a goal and could have scored more. We were slow starting and didn’t really get much of the ball, but fair play to Liverpool they did well. In the second-half we did a lot better. At half-time we knew we had to improve and wanted to go out there to show we could play a part in the game. We could have had more goals.’

And on the switch to the centre having played out wide most of the season, he added:

‘I’ve always preferred playing down the centre and I thought I linked-up well with Chris Sutton. For the goal, I made the header and Chris spotted my run – luckily it went in. Chris is good to play alongside. He’s good in the air, has a great first touch and he spots passes. So he’s good to play with. I’ve got four goals now and I have to be pleased with that start. I’ve got to chip in with the goals as well, I can’t just create. So four is a good start for me. We didn’t start well at Liverpool and we’ve got to start well against Blackburn next weekend. If we do that, hopefully we can get a decent result and get back to winning ways.’

Having watched Blackburn lose to West Ham (2-1) yesterday, Rovers shouldn’t hold any fear for Villa at home, but they won’t be pushovers either. Ignoring the likes of Liverpool who have far more expensively assembled squads, it is teams like Blackburn we need to get points against as they are the ones who we’ll be scrambling against to get into Europe come the end of the season.
