Gabby Agbonlahor has backed Emile Heskey to win round the Villa faithful once he has a proper run in the team.

Speaking on the official site Gabby talked about his own improvement, and learning to make the chances he gets count more often but also defended his colleague after grabbing the assist for his goal.

‘Emile has not played many games at this club yet. But we all know what he can do – and he demonstrated a bit of it with that assist.

‘I’m not really sure you can call it a bad patch because he hasn’t played many games.

‘When he gets a chance to play, I’m sure he’ll show what he can do. He’s an experienced player and I’m sure he will bounce back.’

Kind words for Gabby, but Heskey has played a lot of games since joining the club, and how many chances does one man need to impress. Since January we’ve had 2 goals and a couple of assists. It’s not earth shattering, but we don’t seem to use Heskey in a manner that suits him or us.

In games this season he’s been mostly irrelevant when on the pitch.

IF we could work out how to use him properly, there’s no doubt he could be an asset, he wouldn’t score many still, but he’d be an asset.

I just don’t think it will ever happen.
