Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted he doesn’t want to rest whilst the games come thick and fast, he just wants to keep playing.

Speaking to the Sunday Mercury, they used words like ‘heavy workload’ 🙂 to describe our habit of 3 games in a week lately, and point out that Gabby has been operating as a lone striker. They also reference apparent comments from Martin O’Neill ‘believing’ Gabby could benefit from a spell out of the firing line, but I must admit I haven’t seen those comments myself.

And even if it is a belief O’Neill has, with our lack of options upfront it’s hardly likely to happen before January, and that’s assuming we buy and strengthen further in the window.

Speaking himself though, Gabby just wants to keep playing and although he appreciates the ocassional rest can help players, he’s not looking for one.

‘Of course, it will help the boys to be able to rest their legs during the week after a lot of midweek matches recently.

‘We can be fresh for Saturday against Arsenal. People say I haven’t had a rest but I don’t mind. You want to be playing. You don’t want to be sitting on the bench.

‘I am happy with carrying on playing. I don’t feel tired or jaded. I am fine. I am a fit young man.’

Agbonlahor also couldn’t escape the inevitable Sidders question.

‘Everyone makes mistakes. Steve scored today and won the game for us against Slavia Prague so he has done good things as well for us and he will come back.

‘He had a pretty good game. I think he just misplaced a pass. These things happen. You see them every week in the Premier League. We had enough chances to have won the game.’
