Gabby Agbonlahor is hoping he has proved that he’s not a one season wonder and he’s as pleased as punch with another England call up.

The 21 year old speedy striker has his critics, I’m one of them simply because I don’t believe he is clinical enough in front of goal, but he’s ended this season with a total of 11 and again finds himself in Fabio Capello’s plans.

Speaking on the official site, Gabby said:

‘I definitely feel I’ve had a good season. I was keen to make people realise I could have another good one and I have pushed on more.

‘I’ve proved the doubters wrong and hopefully shut my critics up now.

‘I’m really pleased to get my call-up again after missing out earlier in the season when I got injured at Fulham.’

There’s no doubt Gabby has improved but I fail to see how he has shut his critics up. He’s still far from the complete player, he’s still far from clinical enough and it still disappointing given his pace that he doesn’t play off the last man, hit the channels or arc down the wings often enough.

But he has improved and O’Neill has had him working on his weaknesses. He isn’t a one season wonder but at the moment there’s very little to differentiate him from Lukr Moore, who I think is the better player.

Next season will be a big season for Gabby, he needs to show he can improve further, he needs to work hard over the summer and he needs to hit the ground running.

If he can do that, there’s no doubt whether there is a player in there, just depends on how good a player is in there.
