Gabby Out Of England Match

We were all worried about injuries with such a quiet transfer window, and Gabby is now out of the England match.

The striker was subbed half way through todays match against Fulham after sustaining a hamstring injury. I’m sure we all realise it’s unlikely that he will recover quickly, although we should be counting our lucky stars that we now have an international break which should limit the damage.

Martin O’Neill has spoken out on the official site and said that although there is no way Gabby can actually play in the friendly, he is hoping the player can still travel with the England team nontheless.

‘Gabby is feeling his hamstring at the moment.

‘He came out before the start of the second half to try and see if it was OK. But he was still feeling it.

‘There was no point risking it any further.

‘I would like him to join up with the full England squad if both medical departments (Villa and England) agree. That would be nice for him but there’s no way he can play.’

Today seemed to go from bad to worse, and the cynic in me wants to have it on record I said that selling Cahill would be a mistake, especially if the overriding concern on loaning him again was he couldn’t be recalled as Curtis Davies is also crocked.

‘Curtis has hurt his knee and we will be assessing it further.’
