Gabor Kiraly has lambasted himself following his performance for Villa against Chelsea on Tuesday night.

The Hungarian keeper, currently on loan from Crystal Palace told Nemzeti Sport:

‘Since I’m here this was my poorest performance. Put simply, I’m not satisfied with myself. I wasn’t successful with my kicking, sometimes I didn’t get the distance. I should’ve reacted differently at some situations and on one occasion, I let the ball slip from my fingers. I have to admit it’s not my doing that Chelsea didn’t score a goal.’

How refreshing to hear a bit of honesty from a player!

He added: ‘My last goalless game was on the 23rd September, so I’m happy with the final result. But football is like this, sometimes you feel that you’re doing your job well between the posts and concede three goals and sometimes you feel not at your best and concede no goals at all.’

Thomas Sorensen is said to be close to a return following knee surgery and Kiraly’s loan spell at Villa is set to end on 14th January. Meanwhile Palace boss Peter Taylor has given Villa the green light to use Kiraly in this weekends FA Cup game against Manchester United after saying, ‘If Aston Villa need Gabor for the FA Cup, then we are willing to allow him to play for them.’

  • I think he has done OK since coming in. Still cant get my head round those Matalan tracksuit bottoms though.

  • He could wear flippers, speedos and a Father Christmas hat as far as I am concerned, as long as he keeps the ball out of our net. I actually like him. He is a character and he is entertaining and last time I looked football was meant to be entertaining. I loved it when he came and took a cross one handed on Tuesday.

  • Quite like him too. I remember some of the howlers from Bosnich, Sorenson and co. His first half save at Charlton was excellent – no worse with him than the other two.

  • Voiceoftheholte – i slighty alarmed at the Speedos revelation!!! I also thought it was quality when he jumped to his feet after looking half dead – really would the Chelsea fans up – great stuff.

  • His loan is up on the 14th of jan i think Are we sigining a new keeper? Or are our regular keepers back from injury?

  • I do like him, eccentrics are always good for the dressing room, done his job for us in a time of crisis, cheers QPR. UTV

  • He gives me the jeebies to be honest, although more from his reputation prior to arriving at Villa Park than mistakes he has made since being our custodian. Not fair on him I accept, but to me he’s a disaster just waiting to happen.

  • You’ve got to admit he gave us all something to laugh at during the chelski match. He looked as though he’d been run over by a train for a couple of minutes, until the physio appeared and without warning springs to his feet like a *****in acrobat!! much to the disgust of the cockney faithful.

  • Since hes been here, the game against chelsea is the first game we havent lost. But at least he know he needs to improve, but i cant wait for sorensen to come back…the downward spiral started with tommy being sidelined, so we need to reverse the spiral and get back in the top half

  • He’s due one major bloomer during his time here. Just hope that when it comes, it doesn’t cost us. Get fit Tommy.
