Gerrard Notches Up Three Villa Defeats On The Spin As Players Let The Standards Slip – Match Stats

With Aston Villa again registering back to back defeats for head coach Steven Gerrard ahead of the late March international break, everyone was hoping we’d get back on the proverbial horse in Saturday’s ‘Mind The Gap’ derby with local rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers.

With our international players coming back in good spirits, we even saw Gerrard shuffle the starting pack as Morgan Sanson and Leon Bailey came in for rare starts – but it was set to be another of those days as we were poor and our Molinuex hosts took the lead seven minutes into the game.

13 minutes in Ashley Young replaced an injured Lucas Digne and although we did have chances at goal, they doubled their advantage in the 36th minute when Young headed into our net for an own goal.

As we ticked through the hour mark we’d only managed to test their goalkeeper once, and despite some bloody and thunder on the pitch as you’d expect from a derby clash, it was all a bit ‘meh’ really.

When the forum consensus is the defeat could’ve easily been double this score, that pretty much sums everything up.

Even a late, soft, penalty seeing us claw one back wasn’t enough to save the blushes.
