Wilf, get better soon from all at Vital Villa.

The unlucky Dutch international left-back was left in agony as he dislocated his right ankle during a challenge in the match v Odense.

The players who came over to the bench looked distraught and you could clearly see from my pitch level view Wilfred Bouma’s ankle at a different angle to his leg. Ouch.

The good news is that Martin O’Neill has confirmed that Bouma has dislocated his right ankle, not great but much better than a break which is what it looked like at the time.

O’Neill told www.avfc.co.uk: ‘The doctor is back from the hospital and says it’s a dislocation. Thankfully the skin isn’t broken, which is really good news. They’ve re-set it and he’s now in plaster. It’s obviously a serious injury to a player who’s been playing exceptionally well – he had a great, great season last year and he will be missed. The players are going to visit him tonight and we wish him all the very best and the injury is a big blow to us.’

Chin up Wilf, get well soon.
