Get Your Villa Scarves Out!

At the final home game of the season last year much was made of the 40000+ free scarves that were handed out. I’m sure most of you will remember the amazing atmosphere that they helped to create. That along with the European Cup and the ’82 winning team being paraded around Villa Park before kick off.

During the match the scarves were held aloft and swung above peoples heads on a regular basis and truly helped to create one of the best atmospheres seen at Villa Park for many a year.

Now I’ve always been slightly jealous of the Kop at Anfield and the way the scousers hold their scarves aloft when they sing YNWA. So when I witnessed the scenes against Sheff Utd last year I (probably foolishly) thought that this could be the future of Villa Park.

You can imagine my disappointment when attending home matches this season to see no sign of said scarves. Yes a few people have them around their necks. That, for me, is not good enough. I personally hold mine above my head when the Holte End sings ‘By far the greatest team the world has ever seen’. It would also work well while we sing ‘Yipee Aye Ay….Yipee Aye Oh!!’ Imagine how impressive the Holte would look if everyone held their scarves aloft when we sing these songs. Also swinging them above our heads when we score looks great and adds to the kind of atmosphere we want at Fortress Villa Park.

So I’d like to start a campaign here and now to encourage the use of scarves in this manner. It’s not difficult, costs £0.00 (unless you don’t have a scarf) and genuinely adds to the atmosphere within Villa Park.
