MON has his positives, he has his failings.

Each and every one of us has an opinion on where he scores, and where he doesn’t. He manages a club/team his way, and I don’t think that trait in him, is ever going to change. Well, I know it ain’t.

Do the positives outweigh the negatives? I personally believe they do, but I too share the questions, the concerns, and the frustrations of fellow Villans who believe that the club needs to take a fresh route.

Certain things absolutely have to change before this club can take the next step, and move on to the next level. Sadly some of those things wont change under the current regime, owners/manager.

We are now an established top six club in the top flight, three successive sixth place finishes confirms that.

Its been many a year since we’ve shown such consistency, so in itself, that to me suggests we are club very much heading in the right direction.

Do I want us to break into the top four, win the premier league title, lift domestic and European cups again? Well of course I do, show me a Villan who doesn’t. However, without a huge injection of cash, it ain’t gonna happen.

Its not a level playing field anymore, we all know that. Manchester City will spend big this summer, and next season they’ll join the top four group, no question.

Chelsea and Manchester United can and will find the cash when they need it, and if Liverpool get their act back together, find a cash strapped owner, then you’d better believe that they’ll be back in business with a vengeance.

Spurs have to spend big and increase their quality too if they want regular Champions League football. They wont have a better opportunity to do just that, than during this summer.

Its all about money now. Its not like the ’80’s when Ron Saunders went out and splashed five hundred thousand quid on a centre-forward from second division Newcastle United, who turned us from a decent outfit, but one that couldn’t score anywhere near enough goals, into League Champions and ultimately European Cup winners.

How I wish that one such signing could transform the current squad into European champions, champions of England even, if only it were that simple.

We are in my opinion at least four quality players short of being serious contenders for a top four premier league finish. Sadly, I don’t think we have the means to bring those four players to Brummagem B6.

I’ve enjoyed this past season, I must admit, its been more enjoyable than most I’ve experienced down the years. Admittedly though, most of the season’s highlights have happened away from Villa Park, so if I were a fan who didn’t travel away from home, then yes, I’d be both pissed and concerned at some of the stuff that’s been served up. My view might be different.

Right now I’m more than happy for Mart to get another twelve months (at least) to see whether he can make anymore inroads into the establishment.

My opinion though will change in a flash should our better players, Ash and Milly in particular, be allowed to move on during this window. We should be keeping our talent, building on it. Its the clubs future.

Once we start messing with that, then I’m certain I’ll be joining the ranks of the extremely unhappy.

Up The Villa. And I still say that neither Tony Hateley or Bruce Rioch should have been sold!!
