Barry might not get everything he wishes for.

I find it interesting that as Redscouse were knocked out of the Champions League (or should that be ‘The champions plus lots of others League’) and have only finished 4th in the Premier League, that next
season they will have to go through the qualifying stages to even get in to the group stage. If they fail to get through that they would be in the UEFA Cup.

I wonder how Gareth would feel if he swapped his club captain, play every game, idolised status at Villa Park to go to Redscouse and then finished up playing every few games as part of a 30 man squad, playing second fiddle to the Torres and Gerrard show, in the UEFA Cup alongside the Villa.

Their club isn’t in turmoil but is definitely in a state of limbo. Their proposed new ground will not be ready until Gareth is in his 30’s, so he will not even have the benefit of being part of that. There are ownership and even managerial issues to be resolved.

It is understandable that Gareth wants success, we all do. I hope that he decides he can get it with us. However I would find it difficult not to have a wry smile, should he go to Redscouse and finish up with a poorer situation than he already has.

My message to Gareth is that the grass is not always greener on the other side.
