On loan Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham has backed teammate Jack Grealish to lead Aston Villa to Wembley and Premier League promotion success in the Championship Play-Off campaign.
Having given ourselves a narrow 2-1 advantage last Saturday at Villa Park over West Bromwich Albion with Jack playing a key role in our comeback – the assist for Conor Hourihane’s rocket and winning the penalty for Tammy’s 26th of the 2018/19 season, speaking to Sky Sports this week, Abraham was full of praise for our new skipper.
“He is a fantastic player and you don’t question why he is a leader. His ability says it all. He is a such a good leader as well. For us it is a massive bonus to have someone like Jack in the team. I don’t think he ever runs out of breath – he keeps going. I always think to myself, does he ever get tired? Someone like him gets the ball and he keeps going and keeps going. He always believes and tries to encourage everyone – even until the last minute. It is always nice to have that behind you.”
With plenty of questions about Abraham’s own future now given the season he’s had, added to Chelsea’s transfer embargo, there must have been a question slipped in about the never-ending Wolverhampton Wanderers links last January, and it appears Jack played a role in helping to convince him to stay with us.
“I always knew this was the place I wanted to be. Even though we had a tough spell in the middle of the season, Jack said ‘wait until I get back fit, we will be on the up again’. I believed it, we have a fantastic squad here and we just keep going.”
A curious case of the Nostradamus’ appears to be another of our Academy graduates ever-growing skills.
