One of the best bits of business that former manager Steve Bruce did during his time at the club was when he captured John McGinn from under Celtic’s noses and brought him into B6 from Hibernian – the fact we only paid a snip £3million fee makes the deal potentially one of our best in recent history.

The 24-year-old midfielder quickly found his way into the hearts of fans with his displays and commitment and for many, his consistency across the season made him a more than worthy Player of the Season double winner for 2018/19.

With six goals and nine assists, he does far more than just mix things up with his 14 yellow cards and skirting of a ban come the end of the year, and Jack Grealish made a few comments about him recently as he spoke to the Birmingham Mail

“I didn’t have a clue who he was. Steve Bruce pulled me one day and said, ‘We’ve got a good player coming in – John McGinn’. He has been a breath of fresh air. He is one of the best I have ever played with – and I’ve played with some decent players.”

He certainly has, and I doubt Jack was alone in not having a clue who he was – we do now!
