The 28-year-old picked up the serious injury during training over the New Year and wasn’t expected to return to any fitness until the campaign came to a close. He’s not wearing any protective gear and is now able to walk which shows fantastic progress has been made.
Nyland’s last appearance for Villa was against Preston North End on December 29, 2018. He made 23 Championship appearances in his debut season from FC Ingolstadt and will have a battle with Lovre Kalinic for a starting place in 2019/20. The other 28-year-old was signed in response to Nyland’s injury.
Dean Smith should have two goalkeepers in direct competition for the No.1 jersey next season which should raise both their performance levels. Nyland is on the right track in his recovery and should be back to normal when the summer comes around.
