Guzan’s Fantastic First Season

Brad Guzan has said he has been delighted with his first few months in English football and he’s looking to get more time on the pitch next season.

The US goalkeeper has been backup to the older US goalkeeper for most of the season but has been given regular runouts in our Cup competitions, and the European nights he says were particularly sepcial for him.

Speaking on the official site, Guzan said:

‘The environment of going into the away stadiums trying to get results and continuing our progress throughout the tournament, it was great.

‘It’s been tremendous to be here after the struggles I had to get the work permit.

‘To finally be here and to have a few months under my belt now, it’s been fantastic.

‘As a player anytime you go into your home stadium or go on the road and you are able to look up and see your own supporters going crazy and see the colours and the passion they bring to the stadium, it is huge.

‘It gives you that little extra boost maybe in the 85th minute when your legs are a bit tired you need to keep pushing on. You see their passion and commitment and it makes you want to perform that much better.’

I just hope Guzan reminds our defence of that fact!

The jury is still out for the most part with Brad the Younger, he hasn’t done anything spectacularly wrong when he has played, but by the same token he hasn’t done anything spectacular either.

He seems the steady eddy sort, decent shot stopper, very little flair and reliable. Whether or not he’s good enough completely to take us forward and be our first choice for years to come remains to be seen.

Only time and more on pitch activity will tell us that.
