Aston Villa`s forgotten man Habib Beye is seeking a fresh start under the stewardship of the new gaffer Alex McLeish.

The Senegal international has faded into obscurity after a dismal 24 months in the second city. However, with changes being rung at the club, the full-back is hoping to prove his worth to the team.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail, he said:

‘It’s a fresh start for everyone. If the manager needs me, I will be here. It’s not about me. As a professional you want to play week-in and week-out but sometimes you can’t. If you don’t play every game you are still part of the team and the squad. We’re all in it together. It’s about everyone.

‘Of course you want to shine as a player because you’re a professional and you’re always looking to show your very best but it’s about teamwork and being a close unit. You will have injuries and you have to use the entire squad.’

The 33-year-old concluded by saying he was itching to get back into the swing of things at Bodymoor Heath following his summer break:

‘I am excited. When you have a holiday it’s good, but you’re always itching to come back to football. It’s your passion.’

There is still uncertainty surrounding his future with Luke Young and Eric Lichaj seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order for the right-back position. Tottenham Hotspur`s Alan Hutton is also continuously linked with the club.
