Both Martin O’Neill and Randy Lerner watched Aston Villa reserves come back from 2 down to beat West Ham at Upton Park last night.

Chris Sutton made his debut in the Claret and Blue and managed 72 minutes in his quest to gain match fitness.

Christian Kabeya pulled a goal back just before half time to make it 2-1, Craig Gardner scored from the penalty spot to put us on level terms and young striker Adam McGurk sealed the victory.
Gary Cahill made a winning return from injury and both Wilfred Bouma and Patrik Berger also played.

VILLA: Olejnik, Bridges, Green, Cahill, Bouma, Osbourne, Agathe, Gardner, Sutton, Kabeya, Berger. Subs: Lund (for Sutton 74), Henderson, McGurk (for Kabeya 63), Stieber (for Berger 82).

On the subject of Chris Sutton Martin O’Neill told the official site:

‘Taking Chris Sutton on doesn’t mean he’ll step straight in the side. I know Chris Sutton will come here thinking he’ll step straight in the team. He’ll say ‘I’ll bide my time’ or whatever, but they all want to play and if he’s fit enough, he’ll want to be in the team. He was troubled by the groin for most of the time when he went down to Birmingham in the latter stages of last season. I think he started off brightly but I think the injury occurred and he wasn’t right.’
