Has Lee Hendrie played his last game for Villa?

The Aston Villa midfielder misses the local grudge match against Birmingham City on Sunday due to an abysmal tackle from Paul Robinson who played the man and not the ball during the West Bromwich Albion game last week. He suffered a bruised and cut foot and won’t recover in time.

David O’Leary said: ‘Lee’s definitely out for Sunday. He’s got a badly swollen foot which looks very nasty.’

Hendrie, who was asked how desperate he was to play against Small Heath said: ‘How desperate am I to play? If I’d got a plastercast on my foot right now I would spray it black and put some laces on it – not that I would be able to run that fast – but that’s how desperate I am!’

Hendrie has said several times that all he wants to do at his age is play football and was looking for a loan move in January in order to be able to do that. Several teams, including Wolves and Southampton were linked to him and with the lack of chances even when he’s been fit this season, he could well be looking at moving on in the summer.

Hendrie has started only seven games, he has been on the bench 15 times, coming on in 8 games. He has also been replaced 4 times. He has one goal to his name.
