Earlier in the January transfer window it was being suggested that Aston Villa may be taking a look at 19-year-old goalkeeper Dimitar Sheytanov and the youngster himself has now firmly put his name back into the headlines with a recent post on Instagram.

The original reports came from abroad initially, and as the story got going on the rumour mill it sounded like we may have brought him in for a trial but with an eye to adding him to our youth squads, rather than being a serious contender at first team level given his age.

The above social media message certainly got tongues wagging as he was pictured at Bodymoor Heath with John Terry and plenty of fans and those in the media have now put two and two together and come up with a contract for the Bulgarian.

He is a free agent having left Levski Sofia, but this is where the story gets interesting.

There are claims that he left his former club (originally) as he wouldn’t agree a new contract without guarantees on his playing time. He also has form on social media as January last year saw him take to the internet wearing Leeds United’s training kit whilst he was on trial with them as a free agent.

Obviously, nothing came of the Leeds move and it seems he finally agreed a new deal (otherwise how could it expire again at the beginning of this month), but from what I can tell, the stories now doing the rounds are almost identical – the only difference being it involves Villa now and not Leeds.

My head hurts.
