Has Smith Fallen Out Of Love With Villa’s January Capture As Report Suggests Summer Departure

|

With the January transfer rumour mill in full flow, Aston Villa fans can expect numerous changes this summer as we continue to ship out the old and reinforce with the new. As we look to mount a successful Premier League consolidation campaign in 2019/20, we’ve already been linked with two new goalkeepers, Jack Butland and Neil Etheridge, so it didn’t take an educated to guess to think one of Orjan Nyland or Lovre Kalinic would be moving on.

With the Etheridge rumours significantly slowing and being replaced by the Butland speculation, a recent report in France has suggested that Nantes will look to offer the 29-year-old Croatian a way out of the club this summer, but only on a loan spell, not a permanent deal.

The claim was made by Le 10 Sport but it is sparse on proper details.

With only eight appearances to his name following his arrival in January and injury interrupting his settling in period, it may be a short term solution given he’s contracted until 2023 and we can assess again next summer, as the expectation has to be, irrespective of the Etheridge/Butland speculation, at this moment in time Jed Steer is No 1.

Speculation will only spike this week with news that England stopper and Burnley skipper Tom Heaton has rejected an offer of a new deal at Turf Moor as he featured on the rumour mill last January and a shorter term option with him available as a free for his experience, could be tempting I guess.
