Nicklas Helenius has spoken of his delight at scoring a couple of goals from headers, and also the back injury that has hampered him so far.
Speaking to the Official Site Helenius explained that even at 6t 5′ heading isn’t a strong point in his game, so on our tour of Germany he was delighted to grab two using his head and he was pleased to get off to a goalscoring start to show the fans what he is capable of doing.
‘I was very happy to get the goals, also it was good to get two headers because it’s not the strongest side of my game, so it was good to show myself and show the fans that I can score and also with headers. It gives you a bit of confidence.’
Helenius has previously talked about Christian Benteke leaving and then staying, saying he’s looking forward to learning from him given his perfect adjustment to life in the Premier League, and the only thing holding him back from that at the moment is a back injury he picked up which has kept him out of the games against Wycombe and Luton.
He also thanked Ciaran Clark and Nathan Baker for being instrumental in helping him settle into the club along with personnel, liason and welfare officer Lorna McClelland.
‘It has been very nice and the lads have taken care of me. I feel part of the family already which is very nice. I have a problem with my back which happened at the training camp, that’s the only bad thing so far. I have talked a lot with Nathan and Ciaran because those are the two lads who I sit next to in the dressing room. Also Lorna is like my new mum!’
All the new players are singing from the same hymn sheet and even for the cynical amongst us that’s not to strange really, but it’s nice to hear some credit here for individual players rather than the group, and for Lorna who doesn’t often get the credit she deserves for her efforts in helping players settle in and adjust to life at the club.
Long may it continue!
