The Sunday Mirror carried a story last weekend claiming that Lee Hendrie is once again in hot water having told a wheelchair bound supporter to get out of his wheelchair.

The paper said that Hendrie ‘made offensive gestures and taunted’ one-legged Manchester united fan Andy Wild’

Wild explained: ‘Someone among the home supporters next to the disabled area called Hendrie a w*****. Whoever said that should not have done it but it is the kind of thing that happens all the time in football. Hendrie reacted to it, and shouted insults back. As the abuse went back and forth, I think Angel had had enough because he walked back to the dugout. I then called out to Hendrie, ‘You’re a professional footballer, you should be able to rise above it and you should know better’.

Hendrie then allegedly said: ‘Why don’t you get out of your wheelchair?’

Wild continued: ‘I was too shocked to say anything else but if I could have got out of my wheelchair I would. Hendrie then turned his back on the crowd, bent over, put his hand between his legs and patted his backside in an insulting gesture.’

Doesn’t sound at all like Lil’ Lee does it? 🙁

Wild has now complained and the police are looking into the matter.

The Mirror said: Officers questioned Andy about the incident at his home in Sale, Greater Manchester. They then told Aston Villa bosses they want to speak to Hendrie. Phil Downes, chairman of the National Disabled Supporters’ Association, said: ‘If it’s proved true, it is abhorrent. Aston Villa must take action against him. Any disabled supporter has to surmount more hurdles than most fans.’

An Aston Villa spokesman said last night: ‘Lee Hendrie denies these allegations.’

I hope this isn’t true, I really do, but if it is I hope Hendrie is not only sacked but also one day gets to find out what it is like being disabled, maybe he’d think twice then. As said, I REALLY hope this isn’t true but his past record isn’t exactly great is it? Having not even made the bench this weekend in the match against Watford, you have to wonder what prompted him to be dropped after only returning as a sub the week before. Not convinced his testimonial is exactly going to be a sell out if held are you?

Would be good for Hendrie to come out publicly and deny this as quickly as possible.

  • I aint saying the disabled geezer is completely innocent because i bet he slipped a few expletives in whilst telling Hendrie to kindly rise above the abuse he was receiving. My point is Hendrie is trying to win his place back in a Villa team which has a manager who clearly doesn’t favour him, are incidents like this going to do that, i think not. I believe this might be one piece of controversy too far and finally leads to us seeing the back of the jumped up little tw*t that is Lee Hendrie.

  • I think the story has probably developed as it has gone along. I think what actually happened is that Hendrie was getting some abuse when warming up at the Theatre of Prawns. He probably told someone in the crowd to ‘hop it’. How was he meant to know he only had one leg!!!??? However if he has told a wheeelchair user to ‘get out of his chair’ then he deserves anything that comes. But as with all things he is innocent until proved guilty. And it would be wrong to comment or judge him until then. Any judgement passed by supporters until then is just a witch hunt.

  • Really wouldnt suprise me if it’s true. He shouldnt even get a testimonial. Testimonials should be reserved for true greats. I’d say a slight majority of Villa fans dislike Hendrie. We’ll be inviting Alpay back for a testimonial next!

  • VOTH – whether he said it or not he is once again guilty of bringing the club into the press for all the wrong reasons. He is a boil on the clubs arse and needs lancing.

  • So this handicapped person thinks that because he is handicapped he should be allowed to throw abuse without some coming back. Yeah that’s fair. Then use the wheelchair line when complaining. A class act I reckon.

  • Mr Hendrie, a natural tendency to go forward…and to run his mouth off.Has’nt got the stamina to last 90 mins and is shown up by the professionalism of younger lads coming through,Davis,Gardner,etc..
Has single handedly created nearly as much negative press as deadly in the last 4 years. You have to earn a testimony..

  • Well macka he must be guilty then!!! Lets hope you are never accused of something that you have to deny. And thank god the press in this country only report facts and never ever try to ‘create’ stories or tell lies. It must all be Hendries fault. Thank god for the press of the free world for providing us the information with which to hang the accused.

  • VOTH – you really need to take a calm or something. The second anyone disagrees with you you fly off the handle. Where did i say he was guilty of saying it, come on tell me. I said he was guilty of bringing negative press on the club, is this not true?? Read my first post on this you will clearly see i do not defend the disadbled geezer. I am becoming concerned you are a female.

  • He’s a little ***t, but he’s our little ***t and we have to take care of him. If he did do the things mentioned, than he needs to be fined and shipped of for bringing our club into disrepute, no two ways about it. I’ve always liked him, not so much for his talent (of which he might just have enough), but for the pride in which he wore our shirt. But, indeed, this is one incident too far.

  • Sorry I couldn’t respond quicker macka – I was just finishing my ironing!! You said he was ‘guilty’ of bringing the club into the press for the wrong reasons. I just said that we are lucky we have such honest press that never lie or make up stories. I suppose that Paul McGrath should never have played for the Villa either because he was always in the press for being rat arsed. Or is it one rule for one and another rule for the others that are not true football geniuses??

  • VOTH – Wilkinsons are doing buy 1 get 1 free on marygolds at the minute my missus tells me. Paul McGrath was a selfconfessed alcoholic which i believe the club would have known or had an idea of when they signed him….in fact im gonna stop there, you have just mentioned Paul McGrath and Lee Hendrie in the same breath, HOW VERY DARE YOU!!

  • I don`t like Lee Hendrie as a person, but is there better yet on the right of midfield for this season ??

  • VOICE – thats the danger when you fill your stadium mate, there’s too many people who can complain! Keep VP half full that’s the answer :- )

  • LH will now leave Villa Park in disgrace, MON wont play him and be seen to be supporting this kind of outburst.
