Lee Hendrie has once again said that he might have to leave Aston Villa in order to get first team football.

David O’Leary had suggested that the Villa midfielder’s future was still at Villa Park, but Hendrie seems to think otherwise.

He told Sky Sports News: ‘At the end of the day I’ve always said, I’d love to finish my career at Villa – it’d be a fantastic thrill for me, there’s no place I’d rather be but looking at it now it’s not looking as good for me. I’ve got to look at my own personal situation. If I’m not playing next season or I’m not going to be involved next season then maybe I might have to move on. It hurts me to say that but it might be the only route I can go down.’

Hendrie has been linked to Wolverhampton and Southampton and was looking for a loan move at Christmas which failed to materialise. He is also due a testimonial at Villa next season for 10 years service.

He added: ‘I’ve had a couple of different shouts where I could’ve gone but it all boils down to wanting to play football. There was a chance for me to go out on loan but that has kind of changed. I know it’s a mad saying but it’s a funny old game – things can change in just a few weeks.’

He also uses an ‘O’Learism’ saying ‘We’re down to the bare bones’ adding that even when others have got injured, he still hasn’t had a chance.
