Looks like soon to be former Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie might get his wish and stay in the Premiership (for one season anyway!) after Derby County showed an interest.

The 30-year-old midfielder, who is a free agent this summer, said:

‘My dad has always played a big role with my contracts and it will be the same again. He spoke to Derby last Sunday and thinks there might be something there for me. Derby didn’t want to make any decisions until after the play-off final. They have gone up to the Premiership so that would be a good option.’

‘I would love to stay in the Premiership, although I am not saying I wouldn’t drop down to the Championship if need be. It’s vital I get this contract right. It’s a big one for me and might be my last. I’d like a three-year deal. Nobody is paying for me. I am going from Villa on a free transfer and I will just be walking in somewhere.’

He has also been linked to a return to Stoke and also Coventry City, the Sheffield United links seem to have gone quiet though.
