Whilst most Aston Villa fans had their eyes on the next pre-season friendly of the summer against Walsall at the Banks’s Stadium yesterday evening, the club did announce that another of our youngsters had signed himself up to a new deal at the club.

In fact, it was a first professional contract for Anton Hooper who isn’t a new name on me but I can’t say I’m that familiar with his name. I’m sure with expected promotions from the Under 23s into the first-team to provide depth, options and cover to manager Steve Bruce with finances being tight this year, he’s got a decent chance of making a few forays into Kevin MacDonald’s side as the season of 2018/19 ticks by and by this time next year, we’ll all be more familiar with him.

The 18-year-old has signed a two-year deal at Bodymoor Heath, so it’ll be interesting to see how he gets on as he takes the next step in his young career.

It might not have been the signing many fans were thinking we’d be getting this summer before we learned greater details surrounding Dr Tony Xia’s maths meltdown, but he’s been welcomed into the fold warmly.
