The squad heading to the Hong Kong Soccer Sevens this weekend has now been announced.

Gordon Cowans and under 21 coach Stuart Taylor have taken the young side away for the annual tournament and they arrived today, ready for Saturday’s kick off.

The ten man squad:

Watkins, Leggett, Kinsella (c), Mason, Lyons-Foster, Hale, Taylor, Calder, Sellars, McKirdy.

For Sellars this is a return to the competition as he took part in the 2013 event, and Leggett and McKirdy were in the 2014 squad as well.

The others are making their debuts in the competition.

We open our Group C campaign on Saturday against Hong Kong Football Club (3.25am UK time). We then face Hong Kong FA U18s (5.07am UK) with the final group game coming against New Zealand’s Wellington Phoenix (6.32am UK).

The knock stage of the competition takes place on the Sunday, and subject to us getting through we could meet the likes of Atletico Madrid, Newcastle, Stoke, Leicester and West Ham.

Having won back in 2010 and taking the runners up spot in 2012, we are due a good year again.

With manager Tim Sherwood clearly having one eye on the youth, they will be out to impress and be looking to following in the foot steps of others who have made their name in this tournament like Gabby Agbonlahor, Barry Bannan, Daniel Johnson and Jack Grealish topped the scoring charts two years in a row.
